A Superior Light Therapy Lamp

As well as being used for several years to successfully treat hundreds of people with seasonal depression and sleep disorders,  Sunnex Biotechnologies' low intensity light therapy lamps have undergone rigorous testing in University and Military laboratories.  Using our patented low intensity light therapy technology the Sunnex Biotechnologies Lo-LIGHT needs to provide only a small fraction of the light intensity of an standard bright light therapy box to achieve an equivalent therapeutic affect.

Light Therapy Suitable for All Users

Effective: In a number of studies and trials the soft green light provided by a Sunnex Lo- LIGHT therapy Lamp had the same effect as light boxes that are 20 to 25 times as bright. In trials with patient s with winter depression conducted by  Dr. A. J. Lewy,  the green Sunnex Lo- LIGHT had an equivalent effect, as measured by the induced shift in circadian rhythms, as bright white light.  Reference

In July 2003, a study in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry reported that thirty minutes of morning exposure to the Sunnex Lo- LIGHT dramatically speeded up and improved the response of people with non-seasonal major depression to a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor ( SSRI ) anti-depressant medication. In 2004, the authoritative Cochrane Reviews amended their definition of bright light therapy to include the Sunnex Lo- LIGHT in their Review of Light Therapy for Non-seasonal Depression. The Cochrane Review  gave an "A" quality rating to the above study testing the Sunnex Lo- LIGHT--one of only two studies achieving this rating among the 20 studies that qualified to be included in the reviewReference

Sunnex Biotechnologies low intensity green light lamps have undergone several years of testing by the US Coast Guard Research and Development Center.  The ability of the patented SB low intensity light technology to influence human physiology with intermittent exposure in a manner equivalent to bright light, as measured by melatonin suppression and phase shifting in operating coast personnel, was presented at the International Conference on Fatigue Management  in Transportation in September 2005 in Seattle WA.   Based on the success demonstrated in trials with Sunnex low intensity light on during normal operations on military and commercial vessels, our low intensity lamps have been incorporated into the US Coast Guard's Crew Endurance Management System (CEMS) for commercial  vessels on inland and coastal waterways.  Our low-intensity lamps are presently being used on the midnight shift in the wheelhouses of commercial vessels for the purpose of maintaining alertness of the boat driver.

Sunnex Biotechnologies low intensity lamps are currently in trials with the US Navy’s head injury program for correct sleep disorders, and by the US Air Force and the Canadian Defense Research Development Center for maintaining operational alertness at night.  Our low intensity have improved performance in night worker in a pilot studies at a commercial lumber facility.  These results were presented to the Annual Meeting of the Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms in Eindhoven, the Netherlands in June 2005.

Comfortable  Many users of bright light boxes (5,000-10,000 lux) find the glare of the bright light uncomfortable. This discomfort is eliminated with a Lo-LIGHT therapy lamp.  Our green light source of around 300 lux provides only those wavelengths of light that are most effective at shifting the body clock.

Safe   Ophthalmologists have expressed concern that Bright Light therapy for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) may harm the eye and contribute to age-related retinal damage. This risk increases with age as well as with the use of photosensitizing substances, including common medications and most anti-depressants.  The patented technology used in the Sunnex Lo- LIGHT eliminates the risk of retinal damage.
